Technology transfer is the process of converting an idea, developed by an inventor, into operational and commercial goods or applications, making it available for the benefit of end-users. Patentgate is structured in five stages. Each stage is well documented and shared with the inventor. Although each technology transfer project has its own peculiarity, in general the following structure does apply:
1. Technology Assessment The first stage compares the invention to existing alternatives and prior art. A list of possible applications is prepared.
2. Market Analysis This stage is aimed at identifying potential opportunities and estimating the business value of practical applications.
3. Candidate Partner List The list contains technology adopters that can gain a competitive advantage by using the proposed technology.
4. Negotiation The benefits of the technology are communicated through marketing material created ad hoc, as a basis for negotiation with candidate partners.
5. Licensing or Transfer Agreement At this last stage, the terms of the negotiated agreement are expressed in a legal contract, taking into account the interests of all the involved parties.
